The National Flag — Symbol of the Motherland — is inspired by the flag adopted by the provinces that formed the American Confederation of Venezuela who and declared themselves free and independent on 5 July 1811.
Its original design was conceived by the Generalissimo Francisco de Miranda, Precursor of Latin American Independence at the beginning of 19th century and was affirmed on the corvette 'Leander', anchored on Jackemel Bay, Haiti, on March 12th, 1806.
It consists of a rectangular field with approximate ratio 2:3; this is, square and half of length horizontally tierced in the colors yellow, on superior part; blue, to the center and red, on inferior part. A constellation of seven five-pointed and white stars, disposed in arc of circumference with the convexity upwards on the center of the blue stripe, completes the design.
State and War Flag: Also called 'National Pavillion', it’s the Flag already described with the Coat of Arms of the Republic in the canton on the yellow stripe.
Traditionally, the yellow stripe represents the riches of the country.
The blue one, the Caribbean Sea which bathes the coasts and separates Venezuela of Mother country Spain.
The red one, symbolizes the blood spilled by the liberators in favor to National Emancipation.
Officially, the stars remember the provinces that declared the Independence of Venezuela on July 5th, 1811.
