The Coat of Arms of Barinas State

Heraldical Description

The Barinensian Coat of Arms consist in an English shape decollette to the Chief, filleted in Or (yellow) and divided per fess, the chief per pale.

The Dexter Quarter of the Chief enameled in Or (yellow) shows a caduceus accompanied by a coffee branch to the dexter and another one of tobacco to the sinister jointed in its base, all in its colors. This Quarter remembers the commerce of the coffee and the tobacco: the most important products of the region.

The Sinister Quarter of the Chief enameled in Gules (red) presents two flags horizontally striped in Or (yellow), Azure (blue) and Gules (red) embraced in saltire with two sabers and one lance disposed in pale and crowned with a Phrygian cap in its colors. The Second Quarter symbolizes the Republic and represents the glorious trophies conquered by the heroism and sacrifice of the Barinensians in the Independence War of Venezuela.

The Quarter of the Base enameled in Sky-Blue (variation of heraldical Azure or blue) shows a landscape in which appears a bull in its colors oriented to the sinister and raised on a prairie with a river to the sinister and vegetal fronds to the backgrund, all in its colors. On the center, a curved diminished fess in Or that loads the inscription "DIOS Y FEDERACION" (God and Federation) in capital gothic letters of Sable (black). This Quarter alludes to the cattle and agricultural wealth of the state. The diminished fess rebounds the inscription "DIOS Y FEDERACION": motto of Liberal Party in the Venezuelan Federal War.

As external ornaments the blazon presents a sun rising from the Chief whose disc loads as "war voice" the inscription "SANTA INES - 10 DE DICIEMBRE DE 1859" (Saint Ines- December 10th, 1859) in capital gothic letters of Sable (black) and a constellation of five-pointed stars in Argent (silver) disposed in arc as crest and as supports two fruited royal laurel branches jointed under the Base by means of a pennant in Or (yellow) arranged in bow. The radiating sun represents the Glory and emphasizes one of the most important battles of Federal War waged in territory of the State. The constellation of seven stars symbolizes the old districts which formed the current Barinas State while the crown of laurel jointed by the pennant in Or symbolizes the Victory.
