The Coat of Arms of Barcelona City

Heraldical Description


The Coat of Arms of Barcelona City presents a compound shape bordered in Or (yellow enamel) divided per fess, the chief per pale.

The Dexter Quarter of the Chief enameled in, Gules (red enamel) represents the colonial monuments of Barcelona.

The Sinister Quarter of the Chief enameled in Vert (green enamel), evokes the prosperity, commercial and industrial wealth of the municipality.

The Quarter of the Base enameled in light blue, concentrates a wide range of symbols: The Neveri River, the fertile lands of local agriculture, the mountains of The Sierra of Coast.

As external ornaments:

Above the field, an image of Cacique Cayaurima and a rising sun that represents the eastern state position.

As supports The Coat of Arms presents below the field, centered, a band ties two twigs, one branch ripe coffee at the dexter, another one of Sabila at the sinister jointed under the base by means of a pennant which charges as mottoes the following ephemeris:

"12 DE FEBRERO DE 1638", date of its foundation; — 27 DE ABRIL DE 1810, when it declared independence from Cumana, at the dexter —"5 DE AGOSTO DE 1909", at the sinister, when it was declared the capital of Anzoategui state, and finally registration: "Independencia" y "Libertad".
