The Coat of Arms of Anzoategui State

Heraldical Description

The actual Anzoateguensian Coat of Arms was adopted by Regional Executive Decree on September 9th, 1933 , but it is known that the graphic composition is the same as used during the existence of the Barcelona State between 1864 and 1881.

The Anzoatiguensian Coat of Arms consists of an English field compound to the Chief and divided per fess. The Quarter of the Chief enameled in Or (yellow) presents a tower in Gules (red) with four battlements, with the unions between bricks and door in Sable (black), added of a Phoenix Bird in Argent (white), in attitude to undertake the flight and rounded of flames in its colors, all accompanied by two chains in Argent disposed in pale (vertically) to dexter and sinister with six links each one: broken the one of the Base (the lowest).

This Quarter, enameled in Or for symbolize the Joy, the Constance, the Generosity and the Nobility, shows a tower, emblem of Strength which reminds the so called "Casa Fuerte de Barcelona (something like "The Fort-House of Barcelona") where the patriotic people of these lands fought heroically for the Freedom and whose enamel in Gules represents the Audacity, the Gallardía, the Intrepidity and the Sacrifice. The Phoenix, symbol of resurrection, alludes to the Mother country reborn from of its own ashes. The broken chains, symbol of liberation, remember the emancipation of the realistic yoke and the liberation of the slaves decreed by General Jose Gregorio Monagas, preclear Son of the state, when he was president of the Republic on 1854.

The Quarter of the Base enameled in Sky-Blue (variation of the heraldical Azure or blue) charges a bull in Argent raised on a terrace of Vert (green). As external ornaments, the blazon presents a sun raising from the Chief with twenty-one rays as crest and as supports two bronze cannons crossed in saltire and put behind to the Field which rests on a laurel crown in its color and jointed by means of a pennant in Argent that loads the motto "TUMBA DE SUS TIRANOS" (Tomb of its Tyrants) in capital gothic letters of Sable (black).

This Quarter, enameled in Sky-Blue for indicate the High Ideals, the Elevation of Sights, Justice, Loyalty and the Perseverance, shows a bull, emblem of a generous chest inflamed by the desire of great enterprises, enameled in Argent as symbol of Integrity, which reminds the cattle wealth of the region whose geography is represented by means of the terrace in Vert that alludes to the Abundance, the Cordiality and the Hope of its inhabitants.

The sun remembers the Eastern situation of this Venezuelan federal entity and its rays alludes to the Municipalities which conform it. The laurels, signs of eternal triumph and the cannons, symbols of defense in all critical moment, alludes to the glories obtained by the sons and daughters of the region on the fights for the National Emancipation. The motto recalls the bloody Battle of Urica, verified in territory of the state, where died the dreadful royalist General José Tomás Boves who devastated a great part of the Venezuelan patriot territories in these times.
